If my daughter is anything like me she's going to have a lot animals in her life but I don't think any will ever be able to compare to how special Hanky is to her

dogmama7 Please do a photo shot of the two of them as little red riding hood and the big (wonderful) wolf! They are both precious!

OP foobaby1992 That was actually their Halloween costume this past year but unfortunately neither of them tolerated wearing it for long (Hank is a little on the chubby side and currently on a diet so the granny costume was a tight fit).

The year before that was probably the best costume they'll ever have. We turned a wagon into the Orca from Jaws and plopped my daughter in it dressed as Quint (drawn on mustache and mutton chops included) and put a shark fin on Hank it was perfection

Anonymously_Joe My dog is also named hank. Hes 11. I am not ready for the day he leaves me. My 2 year old loves him more than anything. Dogs are the best.

Edit: I read a comment on reddit somewhere that said dogs will give you the happiest and the saddest day of your life. I couldn't agree with a statement more. Ive had dogs my entire life but its hard to explain that one. My dog is my soul mate and I will never replace him.

OP foobaby1992 You have excellent taste in pet names. Hank is my 3rd dog so I'm familiar with what's inevitably going to happen in the future but god it never gets easier. To me they enrich your life so much that it's more than worth the pain of saying goodbye though and in a Iway they give you so much love and so many memories that they never really leave you. Each dog is so very special even when they're a similar breed so I don't think it's possible to ever replace them.

When it comes to losing a pup and bringing a new one home I find a lot of comfort in this quote: "It came to me that every time I lose a dog, they take a piece of my heart with them and every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog and I will become as generous and loving as they are".. I hope your kiddo and you get plenty more years with your good boy Hank.

Rich Yogurtcloset3672 Looking a doggo in the eyes is a challenge and causes stress. I definitely wouldn't want youngin doing this with a full grown dog who wasn't used to it from puppyhood.

OP foobaby1992 That hasn't been the case with any of the dogs in my life and that's usually associated with strangers making prolonged eye contact. Hank has also known my daughter since the day we brought her home from the hospital and he's only a few months older than her.

Realistic_Mushroom72 Those are the worse, she will be in her early teens, unless he is already old, still I can't have dogs, I went thru that shit once, it was more than enough, bad enough I have to go thru that loss with my family, I can't be doing that shit every couple of years with my pets, no way.

OP foobaby1992 I got him when I was 7 months pregnant with her so they'll hopefully have plenty of time together. I can agree that saying goodbye to them is the absolute worst but grief is just a reflection of love and I wouldn't trade that love for anything including the pain that's tied to it.

Icy_Mammoth_2834 You named your dog after a Christmas poo?
  • 19
OP foobaby1992 lol his name is Hank but he mostly goes by Hanky. We were watching a lot of king of the hill before we brought him home

Owlatmydoor Huskies rule! I wish I hadn't had to wait until I was an adult to have one in my life. I do hope your pup doesn't teach your daughter how to be a drama queen ;P

Competitive_Coat3474 And Hanky will never have a human as special as your daughter in his life. THAT'S WHY DOGS FUCKING RULF!
